First premier league fixtures!
By: Matt | June 20th, 2009On Wednesday the fixtures for Burnley’s first ever premier league season were released.
And as usual, things are not easy for the Clarets.
The first 5 games contain 3 of the big 4 and a home game against Everton. This is not going to be easy. The first game of the season, will be down at Stoke on the 15th August. The Potters were promoted from the championship last season so they are in the same boat as us. Next we have the champions Manchester United. United will be the first game to be played at Turf Moor. Hopefully they will be bad at the start of the season like normally.
We then have a tough home game against Everton. The toffees were due to visit the Turf on Saturday 22nd but have a EUROPA league match. If they lose, this will affect their morale and we can win. If they win they will be on a high.
Last years premiership scalp Chelsea will have nightmares when we come and visit them at Stamford Bridge. They have a new policy “NO COINS ALOUD!”. Next a trip to Anfield where we can hopefully cause an upset.
Something to look forward to is Blackburn at Ewood Park 17th October and the 27th March for the Turf. I just love local derbies. Aspecially now we can beat them 2 games in one season.
Below are the full fixture list.

Hi Matt,
I write for ‘Low-Life Opinions’ (www.lowlifeopinions.com) which is a football and music blog and we’re currently putting together our preview of the new Premiership season. We’re asking a fan from each Premiership club to say how they think their team will do next year and it would be great if you could do it for Burnley. Therefore, if you’ve got a spare ten minutes to answer the questions below we’d really appreciate it. We’d include the answers in our preview article and stick a link to your blog next to it. The piece will hopefully be up on the site in a couple of weeks time.
Don’t worry about it if you’re busy with your own blog and aren’t able to do it. Good luck for the new season.
Cheers,
John
1) Are you pleased with Burnley’s transfer activity over the summer?
2) Are there any youngsters who you think will make a big impact for Burnley this year?
3) What’s the minimum Burnley have to achieve this season in order for it to be considered a success?
4) Did you fear Owen Coyle would join Celtic over the summer or were you always confident he’d stay at Burnley?
5) Name one player you’d like Burnley to sign before the transfer window closes.
6) Will Man City finish in the top four?
7) Where will Burnley finish in the league?

1) I am very happy with the transfers Burnley have made this summer. Steven Fletcher will be a great signing and it is nice to see Owen tightening up at the back, bringing in Tyrone Mears, David Edgar and Brian Easton.
2) I think Jay Rodriguez will brake into the first team for Burnley and make a big influence. Wes Fletcher will develop into a good player, but has gone on loan for 6 months so he probably wont get many, if any at all, first team apperances.
3) A successful season would be Burnley staying up. Burnley have the favorites to go down next season, which I can understand, but Owen Coyle is a great manager that could do anything with this team.
4) I was confident that Owen would stay with us and not be tempted by his boyhood team. There was always a worry that he would leave and we would get stuck with a bad manager but after he got us promoted I thought he would like to progress further with Burnley.
5) I don’t know who a good signing would be for Burnley, but after leaking in goals against lower division teams, we need to sign a good center-back, with premiership experience. Fernando Guerrero would also be a great signing for the Clarets.
6) I have a feeling Man City will finish strong but not in the top four. I don’t believe the players will be able to become a close-knit team before the start of the Premier League. However, I do think Arsenal will drop out of the top four this season.
7) I believe Burnley will struggle in the Premier league but I think they will be able to stay up. 17th would be a fantastic result for the lads and it is possible with a manager like Coyle and the team. Two seasons ago we were a mid-table Championship team. Next season we will be a PREMIER LEAGUE team.
